Students from the Government Titumir College in Dhaka have made a strong statement in their ongoing fight for the college to be upgraded into a full university.
On Tuesday morning (January 7), they put up a banner at the main gate that read “Titumir University,” expressing their demand in a visible way.
The protest began with students holding a rally around the college campus, which then moved out to the nearby Mahakhali-Amatoli road.
After making a full circle, the group returned to the college and gathered in front of the main gate, where they attached the banner to the old sign.
The students placed the “Titumir University” banner both inside and outside the entrance, reinforcing their demand for change.
During the protest, the students criticized the Ministry of Education for what they called "double standards."
They noted that the Ministry had proposed turning seven colleges into universities, but said this was not in line with the situation at Titumir College.
One student explained, "If our demands aren’t met soon, we will announce our next steps on Thursday."
The push for Titumir College to become a university is something that students have been calling for for a long time.
This protest was announced just last Saturday and was organized in response to what the students described as the Ministry`s inconsistency.
They want the transition to happen quickly, and they are determined to make their voices heard until it does.
